I said this on the episode, but this interview was such a full circle moment for me!   This week my guest is country music artist, Cyndi Thomson. I was huge fan of Cyndi’s back in my early teen years, I know every word to her number one song “I Always Liked that Best!”  We happened to connect via Instagram recently, and I realized we had some mutual friends.  I had no idea about Cyndi’s story, but I felt like God was nudging me to have her on the podcast.  To my surprise, she said yes and I got to hear all about life since those days when I was singing along to her songs in the early 2000s.

So much has happened in Cyndi’s life, she has heard God speak in a way that you don’t hear about every day, and she has been obedient to Him when no one else understood her decisions.  She walked away from her extremely successful music career, when she was literally the “it” girl of country music as a 25 year because God asked her to.  This one will have you on pins and needles!  Oh and her Georgia accent is so pleasant to listen to, that’s just a bonus!

Well, here it is folks, my conversation with New York Times Best Selling author, Mo Isom.  Mo is a wife and mom of two little girls, and she is talking and writing about something that is hard but imperative.  She’s basically walking into the darkness with a flashlight, shining light on a topic we just don’t talk about very much in the church, sexual sin.

Mo is coming at this as someone who gets it, she’s been there, she admits in her book that she was addicted to pornography form a young age and engaged in sexual sin before marriage.  She is talking about this because the statistics are staggering, we are living in a world SATURATED with pornography and sexual sin, yes even in the church.  We are all touched by this in some way, I even shared some of my own experiences in this area with Mo.  We have to start talking about this and confessing it in order to be healed.  The enemy loves for us to stay in secret, thinking we are totally alone in our struggles.  Well, we aren’t, we are all in this fight, now let’s acknowledge it and go to war against it.

On this episode, I got to chat with one of the most popular Christian music artists on the scene, Kim Walker-Smith of Jesus Culture.  It was amazing to learn more about her personal story and the journey God has had her on.  She shared about her broken childhood and how her step father was instrumental in her following Jesus.  Would you believe she was furious at her mom in middle school for making her listen to Christian music in the car or that she didn’t make her college choir?  Pretty amazing considering the renowned worship leader that she is today.  That’s how God works, always using the unlikely.

She also talked with me about being a woman in this industry and some of the challenges that have come with that.  She was super vulnerable about her experience with postpartum depression and figuring out her new identity once she became a wife and mom of 3 as well as a career woman.

You might have heard of Jami Nato, and hopefully you are following her over on Instagram!  Her stories are hilarious, but she also goes to the deeper, real places in her feed.    She is seriously one of my favorite people to follow!  So, of course I was thrilled when she agreed to come on 20,000 words and talk with me about her story.

This is real, hard stuff, but as Jami says God had to bring her super low to bring her super close.  The story of her marriage is actually secondary to the story of Jesus redeeming and loving her through something as devastating as a marital affair. I’m amazed at her bravery and willingness to share this story.  Even though this is raw and vulnerable stuff, we also laugh and talk about her eyelashes.  Balance!

You probably recognize my guest this week from the wildy popular show “Duck Dynasty.”  Missy is the wife of Jase and momma to 3.  Missy and her daughter Mia, have just written a book series for tween girls that teaches really valuable lessons for kids that are at a tough age, called Princess in Camo.

Missy and I got to talk about Mia’s diagnosis with cleft lip and palate, which Missy learned about very late in her pregnancy with Mia.  She shared with me about that experience and how she has learned to deal with trauma as she watched her daughter undergo major surgeries from birth.  I also got to ask Missy about what life has been like for her family and how the show changed their lives so dramatically.  I can tell you this, Missy is the real deal.  She loves Jesus and she knows without a doubt the reason they were put in the spotlight is to spread the good news about Him.  I loved hearing from her, and I was so pleasantly surprised with her authenticity.  I hope you enjoy this episode and be sure to share it with a friend!
