This week I got to interview a new friend Scarlet Hiltibidal, who just wrote her first book called Afraid of All the Things: Tornadoes, Cancer, Adoption, and Other Things You Need the Gospel For. Growing up in the SNL Green Room (her mom is Victoria Jackson), being born to a fire-eater and adopted by a SWAT cop, having internal organs explode, and adopting a deaf girl from China, Scarlet has been given some strange life experiences—and lived in fear through most of them. But life changed for Scarlet when she learned to hold the gospel up to her fears and realized that though she can’t fix herself or protect herself. Jesus walked into this broken, sad, scary place to rescue, love, and cast out her—and your—fear.
I was shocked by how similar Scarlet’s story about getting freedom from an eating disorder was to my own. She is brave, and I am just so honored to have her on the show.

We are kicking this season off with a bang! Not many people I have spoken with have the depth and intensity that Tiffini Kilgore has when it comes to her love of “Papa,” as she refers to God. Tiffini is the author and founder of home décor company, House of Belonging, and she is also now the author of Misfit Table. She talks about how the trauma and brokenness of her upbringing seemed to follow her into her own family home, but the one steady constant amidst the hurt was the reassuring, capable voice of her Heavenly Father.
About the book Kilgore says, “I once thought rescue was a single event. Now I see it is a daily rescue. A daily coming to the table, letting him feed me gospel. Every single day. It’s beautiful. Simple. It’s enough.”
